Hey everyone!!! I hope you all are doing well and having a great week. As you may or may not know Joey is on vacation in Texas this week so I get the privilege or writing this week’s blog. I came in this morning praying and wondering what I should write about and then it came to me. Memorial day is now behind us, which for students means summer is right around the corner!!!
There is nothing better then summer. It is so close you can all ready taste all the hotdogs and hamburgers and feel the sand between your toes.
The problem is there are still a few weeks of school left. If you attend an older school like I did in High School, your building may not have air conditioning, which makes it that much harder to finish out the school year strong. But I am writing to you to encourage you to do just that, FINISH STRONG!!!
In Philippians 3, Paul writes about how we need to finish the race to which we are running. For students we all need to stay focused and finish this school year out strong.
But this passage goes much deeper than finishing the school year out. Paul is encouraging us to continue to develop our relationship with Christ. It is very easy to stay where it is comfortable instead of maturing in our relationship with Christ.
There have been many times where I make excuses for not growing in my relationship. I say to myself that there is no way God wants to use someone like me because I have not been faithful in the past or that I have done too many bad things for God to use me now or in the future.
That can’t be any further from the truth. In Philippians 3 Paul encourages us to focus on what is ahead. He wants us to finish the race strong.
So my encouragement to you all is just that. Focus on maturing your relationship with Christ. If you have sin you need to confess and get right with God, do it and move on so you can finish the race strong. You never see athletes running a race with weight around their ankles so why should we do that with our relationship with God?
1) Read Philippians 3:12-14
2) Ask God to forgive you of past sin and to help you move forward
3) Write down goals on how you want to see yourself grow in your relationship with Christ. Then share then with someone (a leader, friend email them to me…)
My prayer for you all is to see you continue to develop and take seriously your relationship with Christ. You all rock!
Peace out! – Mike - (mwinger@rtbc.org)

Sneak Peak @ Sunday: Rest
This coming Sunday, I’m speaking in “Big Church.” For those who aren’t familiar – that’s the 9:15 and 11:00 service with all the grown-ups. I’m talking about Rest.
I am sort of using this venue to straighten out a few thoughts that I have about “Rest.”
Last week in Vital Link we spoke about the 4 friends with the paralytic. I had mentioned that these guys did what it took to take their hurting and spiritually deprived friend to Jesus. They gave their time, had good attitudes and didn’t let sin get in the way.
They had first carry him across town, decided getting him through the wall of the crowd was impossible, hoisting him on a roof, digging a hole though it, and then lowering him down carefully in front of Jesus – hoping that this man they heard about, Jesus, didn’t have a short temper.
I didn’t speak very much on two important things that took place.
1.)Jesus showed the utmost compassion and mercy to the man and his four friends because of their faith.
2.)The men were probably so physically exhausted – BUT how peaceful was it to know that their obedience brought saving grace to their friend.
It’s funny how in order to get rest – you truly have to work hard (And I'm not talking about working for your Salvation - That's only done by the work of Jesus). But notice – they weren’t looking for rest – they were looking for peace and healing for their friend – and through that – they found their rest.
I don’t want to give away everything, especially all the passages I’ll be using – but take a look at the following:
1.)Read Isaiah 30:18. Write down your personal thoughts on this passage. Write down the kind of picture it paints of God?
2.)Read Hebrews 4:16. Write down your personal thoughts on this passage. Write down the kind of picture it paints of God?
3.)Read Mark 2:1-12. Are you feeling spiritually tired? According to this passage – what should you do? (Hint – what did the 4 guys do for the paralytic)
4.)Pray. Pray that God works you hard for his glory and honor – so that you may
receive rest.
I know this is a hard topic to swallow – so come out this Sunday & See what it’s all about!
Keep Rockin’,

Joy
Joy usually can stem from some sort of accomplishment or flourishing that takes place. Joy is an emotion evoked when something makes you ecstatic or happy. What brings you great joy. I have tons of “little” joys in life. For me it’s just that – the little things. I love when Stephanie gives me a tiny hand massage. Or when randomly comes over and gives me a hug and a kiss. I love trying to eat out at new restaurants. I enjoy being out in the sun – and going on vacation. As a matter of a fact I can’t wait to go to Australia.
My thought is – God made this entire world, and as put all of these “sights” to see – why not go see them. He has created things in this world to take joy in – however – these things are not to take the place of Him in of our lives.
See many people look to the significant other for ultimate joy and satisfaction. Others desire food for pleasure, maybe even spending money – like going on lots of vacations.
Anything in excess is bad. God gives us the ability to enjoy but not to abuse. He wants to be the ultimate Joy in your life – not some restaurant or a place on this earth. The Ultimate Joy is being able to be in his presence for eternity.
1.)Read Psalm 35:9. What does it mean to delight in your salvation?
2.)Why is it so difficult to keep “lasting” joy in God?
3.)What things bring you joy and satisfaction? How long does it last before it wears off?
4.)Pray for wisdom and responsibility in enjoying the things of this world – but not for ultimate joy. Pray that God renews your spirit to have joy in his salvation.

Love
As we defined yesterday, Love is a feeling that is with “strong affection.” The concept of love is rather broad, and can carry various meanings. For example I love my Mom. I love my Dad. I love my wife. I love my best friends. But let me tell you – I love them all in very different ways!
Some of us might have a difficult time understanding the concepts of love. Whether you come from a broken home, or have endured heartache or pain from various life circumstances. Love seems trite to you, or unrealistic.
Well, 1 John 3:16 defines love as “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.”
Just last night I saw a friend. Something happened, and I am not sure what it was, but through some sort of transaction – whether through conversation or something God moved with in me, I was able to tell him that I appreciated him so much – that I would lay my life down for him. It was sort of an awkward moment – but he replied with the simple word of – “WOW.”
First of all – for me to be able to say that is pretty powerful – and it must say a lot about my friend. But imagine how my friend must feel, to know that someone cares enough for him to die for him?
A few points to make briefly:
1.)Do you understand that the Love that Christ has for you is incomparable to any love that you might experience here on this earth. No matter if you’ve been let down – or if you feel like someone loves you more than anything in this world – Christ’s love to die for each one of your sins so that you may have everlasting life with him and the Father for eternity is picture of Love – something we all cannot neglect.
2.)Next is – what kind of friend are you being? Also – who are your true friends? Would you lay your life down for them? Would they lay their lives down for you?
3.)Read 1 Corinthians 13. Write a few thoughts down.
4.)Ask God for wisdom on how to understand and comprehend his Love through his Son. Pray that he will show you how to be a better friend – and maybe pick better friends.

Peace, Love & Joy
Peace – Absence of conflict
Love – Strong Affection
Joy – Happy, content, pleasure
Unfortunately in 2009 – many people only have “experiences” or “brief moments” of them descriptive words here. Sometimes you’ll feel joy when you win a game or after acing the latest quiz or test. Perhaps you’d feel Love after you’ve had strong feelings towards someone of the opposite gender. As for peace – well sometimes people do not ever experience peace – where, by definition is the absence of conflict, but for all intent and purposes we will say the absence of inner-conflict. And the next few days we’ll be talking about these three words – beginning with Peace.
The world that surrounds us fills us with anxiety, hatred, and misery. If you notice these adjectives are direct antonyms to the three defined above. This past week, I was led to Isaiah 30. When I arrived here I saw in verses 11-14 where Israel was pleading:
“Give us no more visions of what is Right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions.”
They wanted to gain “peace” by living in a fantasy world. They wanted to eat, drink, and be merry – forgetting everything God has done for them and required of them. But God responds with a warning:
“Because you have rejected this message and depended on deceit, this sin will become for you life a high wall, cracked and bulging, that collapses suddenly, in an instant.”
This was almost a promise from God that if they count on the world (Egypt) for Peace– the bottom will fall out from underneath them. They are hoping in something so fragile and so temporary – unlike the stronghold they could have in God.
1.) Be honest with yourself. List a few things you count on happening each day so that you may experience peace. Do you yearn on people’s approval? Do you count on being in the “in-crowd?” Like Israel, were you needed a sense of security/identity for something?
2.)Read Isaiah 30:1-14. Write down a few thoughts.
3.)Write out a prayer to God. In what areas of your life do you need help with peace? Plead with God and ask him to show you how to trust in him for peace.

Consistency
It’s hard to be consistent. The pressure built around one person being consistent is unbelievable. Ask the horses that win the Kentucky Derby. Ask a Pastor who gives a message every single week. Ask a brain surgeon. Ask any Professional Quarterback. Ask any professional athlete for that matter. Oh – and how about asking Jesus as he was getting a beat down and hung on the cross about staying the course. The point is, is that there is major pressure to be consistent day in and day out.
God desires that we remain consistent as well. For instance, there are hundreds of times in scripture where God says to not turn from the Right or the Left. Have you ever thought what that means? “Do not turn to the right or to the left.”
It’s like if you’ve ever trying to hit one object with another object; like a baseball with a baseball bat. It’s called hand-eye coordination.
If the person up to bat, prepares to hit the ball and looks to the right or to the left of the ball as it comes from the person throwing it – what do you think the chances of hitting the ball is?
Maybe in darts – imagine if you’re trying to hit the bull’s-eye but you stare down to the right or to the left – the chances go way down, to near impossible, to hit your goal.
Consistency in the eyes of God is staying focused on him. It is one foot in front of the other – not taking your eyes off of him. It’s hard, But, there’s good news – as a believer in Christ – we’re not alone.
Read Joshua 1:6-9
1.) How is Joshua to keep from going to the “right and/or to the left.” Why is that so important? Have you been consistent with it?
2.) What are some other words for strong and courageous? Make a list of words that are similar. Think about this – are these words more about you, or more about God? What do you have to do to be consistent with these words? Write down a specific plan to put your faith in him to help you walk straight and live a consistent life for him.
Philippians 2:12-21.
3.) Look at 2:17. Striving towards the goal and staying consistent can be difficult when we live in a world that doesn’t believe in Christ. But what is Paul’s solution?
I know it’s been a long time – but here starts the consistent streak! Believe it or Not!
Rock on!

Being Part of the Solution
Monday we talked about Leaving a Legacy. I hope you have spent adequate time doing that. Today we are going to talk about "being part of the solution."
My Senior year at college I was a Resident Assistant. For those not familiar, I was the guy that lived on campus and made sure all the guys in the dorm's needs were being addressed and met. Well this specific year there was quite a bit of "complaining" going around. Some warranted, some maybe a little petty. Bottom line was, we as a staff at the college agreed that we would begin taking written complaints only if the students were bringing reasonable solutions to their problems.
The easy part is jibber jabbering and complaining. The hard part is actually thinking about, and being a part of the solution.
1.) Do you have a tendency to complain? What kind of things do you complain about? Can you help fix the problem? What can you do?
2.) Read Numbers 14. Israel had a real knack for complaining and not doing anything about it. They would always blame God, or whoever their leader was. They look kind of silly right? They especially looked silly in verses 2-4. Spend some time and write some reflections on Numbers 14. Yes - anything that comes to your mind. Relate it to your life.
3.) If there was one thing you wanted to change about your life, what would it be? Is it about yourself? Is it about someone else? Is it about where you are in your life? Why do you want this changed? Would this change be honoring to God? Why or why not? What can you do to change is that would be honoring to God?
4.) Think about some things you complain about in church? What are they? What about church would you change? Why? ((Pastor Joey would be interested to see theses!!))
Alright guys - keep rocking! Have Fun!

"What's Your Legacy?"
If you haven't noticed, this is our first post in just over a week. I hope you all had a great Easter and enjoyed going back to school! :-)
Yesterday, up at Vital Link, we started a series called "Leaving a Legacy." We talked about the word "complacency" and how that single word can characterize all the Generation Y'ers (Anyone born between 1980-1996). We also spoke to those who have left a legacy that they had nothing to do with complacency.
Today, I wanted to start the week off with writing our own legacy. This might sound morbid, but think about if you were gone and went on to spend eternity with God above - what would people write about you? Spend a good bit of time writing out your legacy. Think of answering some questions, like "What do people know me best for?" "What have I done that has made a difference?" "Who have I impacted in a positive way?" "What kind of personality did I have?" These questions will bring even more questions. So take your time - and write it out. Save it for 1 year, somewhere safe, or you can send it to me, and we'll read it one year from today!
My goal is that you will think about where you are now, and where you want to be.
Wait - before you start. Read Galatians 1:11-24. Paul tells us his history of making a legacy. Notice, Paul doesn't call himself a celebrity. Rather he had allowed God to use him, not to be the focal point - but only to point others to Christ.
1.) Write out your legacy.
2.) In Galatians 1, what kind of man was Paul before he knew God's grace? How does this change occur? What happened?
3.) Read 1:22-24. He was unknown, but they heard of them, and the result was they praised God. Can people praise God for things you have done?
4.) If you are feeling down - don't be. Paul was a murderer. God changed him. Spend some time boldly and confidently asking God to change your heart and your ways to change your legacy for the better!

Easter Week: Day 4 - Today is the Day
Today is the Day.
Today is the day the whole world hated one Man.
Today is the day the crowds called for the crucifixion of one Man.
Today is the day Barabbas, the murderer, was pardoned in order to kill one Man.
Today is the day the crown of thorns and lead ended whips went into one Man.
Today is the day many cried over lost hope because of the death of one Man.
But. . .
Today is the day death was conquered by one Man.
Today is the day our sins were purged from us unto one Man.
Today is the day the gates of heavens are opened because of one Man.
Today is the day salvation was made known to all because of one Man.
Mark Driscoll in his book "Death by Love" paints the picture of this day. Here is a collaboration of his account:
Jesus was sentenced to be murdered. He was blindfolded and was beaten. He was handcuffed, and whipped with a hook that ripped out his flesh, muscles and tendons. He had thorns shoved into his head. He had a 100 pound cross put on his back. He then had to carry it to his own hill of death. Then they pulled his beard out and began driving nails into his hands. They were 5-7 inch nails and then they nailed them into his feet. His body began to twitch involuntarily as he screamed in sheer agony. Then he was lifted up and his body was handing on the nails.
This style of punishment was the most disgraceful, horrid, disgusting way to be put to death.
So How in the world can we celebrate it Today and this weekend?
First because we know that on the 3rd Day (This Sunday) he rose again and death did not keep him down.
Second - it is the snapshot of God's Love, and Jesus mercy and grace, for all believers. It is for all who believe in him. It is for anyone who trusts in him, and not themselves.
Humbling, isn't it.
Copy, Paste, & Print
1.) Write down the kind of feelings you truly get when you read, hear or see the crucifixion story. Does it cause you to feel sick?
2.) Do you spend time thinking about the actually events that took place this day? Or can you admit that you take it for granted? If you are feeling "blue" right now - that’s okay, it is a hard thing to grasp. If don't you feel sad - write down how you feel.
3.) Try reading the various accounts in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John of Jesus' punishment and death.
4.) Like yesterday, spend some time in prayer, thankful for the blood of Jesus.
Keep Rockin' for Jesus!

Easter Week: Day 3: Today is Thursday
Today is Thursday. 2,000ish year ago, around this time - Jesus was preparing himself for what he knew was the will of the Father. Betrayed by a kiss, and tried as a criminal - Jesus would be handed over to the Roman government to be tried in order to be crucified. This last day of freedom, Jesus chose to do a few things prior to this happening.
On Thursday he stopped his earthly ministry and started his intercessory ministry. He closed himself off from the public and spoke to his closest followers, the Disciples. He shared with them lasting principles and commands. To love others, to serve others, and to share the most important gift with them and that was "the Way." He reminds the disciples to understand that hope doesn't stop with His death, rather it just begins. He explained that he was the way the truth and the life, and that no one came to the father, except through him.
After a few words of hope of remaining in him, and sharing with the disciples about the power and strength they will receive from His spirit that will last on past his death - he prayed. He prayed and he prayed, and he prayed. He prayed that he would glorify the Father, he prayed for the sanctification of his followers, and he prayed for the unity of all believers.
Then - betrayal. The last thing before Jesus was handed over to the authorities was prayer. Prayer didn't deliver Jesus from his trial - but it did much more. It gave him strength, it got his head in the game, it focused his mind and heart on the prize. Prayer gave not just Jesus hope, but others hope.
Today is Thursday. How will you prepare for the celebration of Jesus' death tomorrow?
So here we go: (Copy, paste, and print)
1.) Spend today in prayer, all day. Whenever you have a still moment, use that time to pray.
- Pray for those who you now do not believe in Jesus for eternal life.
- Pray that God would glorify you, in order to glorify himself.
- Pray that God would guide you and direct you towards sanctification.
- Pray that God would give you a spirit of unity with other believers.
2.) There is no two. Even when it's hard to pray, today, try to converse with God, you will be amazed.

Easter Week: Day 2 - Understanding True L.O.V.E.
1 John 3:16 says "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers."
Can you say that you could do that?
True Love is not just thinking guy or a girl is "cute."
True Love is not just having funny feelings in the pit of your stomach.
True Love is not just admiring someone for their personality.
The bible says True Love is to lay your life down "NO MATTER WHAT."
Can you say that you could do that?
True Love is not just taking a bullet for someone.
True Love is not just helping someone get out of trouble.
True Love is not just putting others before yourself.
The Bible Says True Love means to sacrifice "EVERYTHING."
Can you say that you could do that?
True Love is not just for Parents and their Kids.
True Love is not just for Husband and Wife.
True Love is not just for Boyfriends and Girlfriends.
The Bible Says True Love is for "EVERYONE."
Can you say that you could do that?
Well - can you?
Jesus did.
Jesus Loves you. No matter who you are, what you look like, what you've ever done. Jesus Loves you and Sacrificed everything he had, and everything he was - so that you may spend eternity with him. We are days before Easter, there are decisions to be made.
So I charge you with the following:
1.) Make a list of "true love" actions you can remember doing for someone else.
2.) The Bible says "Love others, as you love yourself." First - do you Love yourself? Do you love yourself as God has created you? You can't love others, if you don't love yourself.
3.) Read 1 John 3. Memorize a few verses on "Love." Write down what these passages mean to you in your life right now.
4.) Take time now to pray and thank God for sending his son Jesus to die for you and your sins. Maybe you need to accept him the first time. Maybe you need to recommit your life to him. If you make any commitment now - please e-mail me at JRuyter@rtbc.org.

Easter Week: Day 1 - Is God Really There?
Here is the problem for us regarding this question - everything in this world is hands on. If we want something - we get it. Well when we talk about God, we are not talking about something physical; we are talking about something Spiritual. We try to wrap our minds around something that is beyond our physical limitation. However, God did show us himself when he came down in the form of his Son. He made himself personal to us, to enter a relationship with him through his Son Jesus Christ. We can enter and feel the relationship when we accept Christ into our hearts.
Next is our Spiritual Limitations. We are sinners. There is no way around that. We are called to be holy and righteous but by ourselves we cannot achieve this. This is why we all need to have a relationship with God's son, Jesus. Sometimes it can be difficult for us to realize God is present, when we do such worldly things which clutter our hearts, minds, souls and lives and it makes it difficult to see and hear God, like we would normally. This whole week, we will be preparing for the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a reflection time. A time where we can take a look at our lives, and a time where we can assess where we stand with God. Here are a few things for you to think about this Easter week.
This week you may need to ask Jesus into your heart. Trust that his "redemption work" of dying on the cross and rising again for our sins is what saves. Trust in him completely for your life here on this earth, but more importantly eternal life. Also - take a look at the following this week!
Remember - it helps to copy, paste and print!
• Understand God's Heart
- Asking God to show you what he sees and feels
- Read what he has to say in the bible
- Spend time praying about showing you how to be more like him
• Put God first on your priority List
- Other things distract us from the world
- When we put other things first - he will seem Distant
- Don't ask - What is the minimum I can give to God, or what can I get by with. Rather, ask "what is the very most I can give to God? I want to give it all." When you discover the pleasure of living for God, you will want nothing less.
• Make him Real in your life
- Practice Conversations with Him
- Go above and beyond what is required and be "enraptured by our God."
Read John 14 - Don't worry - even the disciples didn't get it
Read John 15 - Remain in Jesus and he will remain in you
Read John 6:60 - Some doubted and didn't have faith
1.) Is the reality of God something difficult for you to grasp? Why do you think its easy to think of God as "Santa Claus?"
2.) Make of list of things you can sense God doing in your life. Maybe it was that he gave you strength when you needed it. Perhaps he gave you comfort. Maybe he did something more specific. Spend some time and think about when God made himself real to you.
3.) Read John 20. Read specifically about Thomas. Can you relate to him in this story? Wrestle with the text and think through this story. Memorize a few verses. Don't forget to remember the verses you have been memorizing since last week!
4.) Pray for what was mentioned above in the "bullet points."

Straddling the Line
Good evening. I hope you have taken the last day or two to try the exercises from the last post. Today I want to talk about "Straddling the Line." Our purpose, just to clarify, is that we spend each day in God's word. The more we read and think about God, the closer we draw to him. For instance, if you think about and talk to your boyfriend or girlfriend, or in other cases, your best friend - then you will draw closer to and be enraptured by them. Ever thought of being enraptured with God? Can you imagine what could happen if you thought about God most of the day, instead of "dreamy 'ole Johnny?"
Okay - I know I am being silly - but seriously. Straddling the line; here's my point. Imagine if, from where you stood, right in front of you was a line. Let's say you took your left foot and stepped on one side of the line, and with your right foot - you stepped on the other side of the line. This is what we call . . . yes - that's right, "Straddling the Line."
You see, imagine that the left side is conforming our minds to that of Jesus. This is what that looks like in 2009: we go to church, read our bible, pray, encourage and help others, serve, and have an overall genuine love and compassion for people. There is something inside of us as "Christians" (those who trust in Jesus' work on the cross for their salvation, and nothing else) where we want to follow and trust God daily by doing those previously listed things.
However, there is that right side we step on. Our other foot takes a step over the line to see what the other side is like. Instead of allowing our whole being to conform to the mind of Christ, we confuse our souls and follow the "goods of the world" on top of trying to follow Jesus. Here is what that looks like in 2009: we try other substances to make us "happy", which includes anything from drugs and alcohol to sex. There is something that lives within us as "Christians" that yields to curiosity and wonder of what the world has in store for us, rather than our joy being found in God.
So - here we go. Copy, paste, fill out, and print the following.
Rom 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.
1.) What things have you been hanging onto in order to get "satisfaction" or "happiness" on the world side of the line? Could these be considered sin? If they are - do you really gain ultimate joy from them, or does the joy and pleasure eventually wear off? Explain.
2.) Write down a time when you felt you had both feet on the "God" side of the line. Recall, while you write, how you felt? Do you want that feeling again? How about every day? How can you do this?
3.) Read John 15. Write and memorize 1-3 verses from this passage today. Write some thoughts that come to your mind when you read this chapter.
4.) Do you feel you are at a point where both feet are on the "world" side? Pray. The answer of digging out of a rut, isn't "trying" to climb out, but rather it's prayer. Ask God to help you conform your mind to his. Spend the next few minutes, as long as it takes, talking to God about where you feel you stand with him.
Be encouraged, no matter where you stand today, it's not too late to Rock for Jesus. So until next time - Keep rockin'.

"Here we Go . . . "
Whats up everbody? Welcome to the "oVerfLow deVotionaL." This blog/devo stems from the Vital Link Student Ministry at Riva Trace Baptist Church right outisde of Annapolis, MD.
Let's not waste too much time. Today I want to just talk about the word 'overflow.' Matthew 12:34b says that "Out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks." Day in and day out we are filling our hearts and minds with "stuff." This "stuff" could be good or bad, depending on the sources. And its kind of like the breakfast or lunch you ate earlier today - "what goes in, does come out." Sorry for the mental picture.
What are you taking in? What is coming out? My former Youth Pastor once said that "Your character isn't how you act or what you say when people are around, rather it is how you act and what you say when no one is around." It is so easy for our hearts and minds to be filled with junk. We spend more time accessing the internet, Facebook, iPods, and our Wii's, than our time with God. Absolutely nothing wrong with those few things, yet that is the purpose of this Devotional.
Once a day - after you get done your homework each night, don't go running to Facebook, your iPod, and your video games just yet. Come here. Spend some time with God and his word. Equal out your time with him, with the time you spend watching T.V. or searching the web. I'm telling you - you will be surprised with your "Overflow." Your once critical, frustrated, shallow heart will turn into a compassionate, excited follower and lover of your creator and your savior.
So - here we go. Start now. Give this a shot for a few weeks - and you will soon desire to grow closer to God every day, and make an impact on your friends, family and your own generation in the name of Jesus Christ.
Step one: Copy & Paste the following into a WORD document
Step two: Fill in the blanks or type in your answers
Step three: Print and save a copy
1 Thess 3:12-13
12 May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. 13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.
1.) Type your own definition of Love:
2.) Can you say you Love all types of people? Do you have less patience with some people than others? Why? Do you think it's okay to only love those who are easy to love? Turn to 1 John 4:19-21.
3.) Think of a coffee cup. Imagine in the coffee cup it could either be empty, half full, full, or overflowing of fresh brewed coffee. Now think of your heart. Is it empty, half full, full, or overflowing with God's Love and Holiness? Or have is it filled, but with "junk." Rate yourself from 1-10. 1 being empty and full of junk, 5 being half empty with junk, and 10 being overflowing with good. Explain why you think your could be "that" certain number.
4.) Want to "up the number" towards overflowing? Do the following for the rest of your alone time with God:
- Read 1 John 4
- Memorize 1-3 of your favorite verse(s) from this chapter.
- Make a list of what you could to to stop filling your heart and mind with junk.
- Make a list of what you could do to start filling your heart and mind with love & Holiness.
- Pray that God will help you through this process. Pray for those you have a hard time loving. Pray that God will instill in you a clean heart today!
Until next time, keep rockin' for Jesus!
- Pastor Joey
